I'd like to know how users decided on their lichess name. Some of them are really curious... Others, like mine, are quite mundane!
NoTimewasters - I was fed up of people selecting a game with me and then aborting it :)
How did YOU decide on YOUR name?
I wanted to give people a rough estimate of my strength.
A different chess website only accepted names up to 8 characters long.
'coolpants' didn't fit, unfortunately.
I used to use the username Encrpted(after the word encrypted) on various websites, but I got tired of it. I thought of the name Sinko(after the word sync)... However, I didn't like it, so I changed it to Zynko.
"cynosure

noun
a person or thing that is the centre of attention or admiration."

I'm thinking of giving a trophy for the best name - or for the best explanation. If I WERE to give a trophy, Cynosure is way ahead so far... :)
My explanation is only funny if you have a command of the Dutch language.. it's derived from one of the most hilarious tv commercials ever. I remember literally rolling over the floor laughing when I first saw it. I think the Dutch members will appreciate a bit of nostalgy, so here's the commercial:
