Do you read books?

@Dukedog guides us to an important point: it's not riches from which children derive the most benefit (although they are unlikely to hurt). No, THE finest gift a parent can bestow upon a child is the love of language and a passion for reading.

Yeah, I know, a rich kid can buy somebody to read for him or her.

But it's swimming directly and ably in language that enriches our lives incomparably.

Although fried chicken helps, too.

Thanks mom, for both.

And thanks, able historians, for giving us so much of value to read (perhaps Ms. Wedgewood and Ms. Tuchman foremost among them -- although don't overlook Churchill himself).

And thanks, Aagaard, Lakdawala, Hendriks, Timman, Sielecki, Fine, the lesser and greater Laskers, and Nunn (not in any particular order) for writing so well about chess. Wait, I almost forgot Kasparov. Which would be inexcusable.

I'm sure there are some other unusually good chess writers I'm forgetting. Ah, they're coming to mind: David Lucky and Stuart Rachels. And that Smyslov guy. And, of course, Tal. And Soltis. The list goes on and on.

Yes tis true
Words may not always convey wisdom
Yet wisdom is always conveyed
Through words

Live and love and learn
And your life shall be richer
By far...

I can write quite well but I can't read at all so I have no idea what this thread is about ;)

That's the way it usually goes for me, after I smoke the green.

@CSKA_Moscou maybe you will enjoy three body problem by cixin liu, it has themes of the tenuousness of our perceptions of reality, the complexities of communication and intention, and technological differences as well as the survival and conflict aspect with the alien species. Unless you have already read the series

I only read the first of the trilogy,
I nevertheless really appreciated the political and somewhat mystical side of the plot, it is a masterpiece of the science fiction genre !
