Chess does excercise the brain. Especially if you live a Routine Life.of factory work and office work.... Keep on working until break time, back to work and finally end of the work day. Does chess help students improve grades? Any recreation helps the students unwind and cope with study stress.

How does the Knight move? L-shaped. How does the Pawn move - always forwards in a straight line (unless capturing). And I thought chess players would notice something like this, apparently not.

People who are not fantastic geniuses can use specialized training to help close the gap, but it's a simple fact that Smart = Good at brain things.

It's the same thing as the physical world. If you're a giant heavy man, you're going to be stronger than a tiny light man and if you both start training at the same time, the giant guy will be stronger faster and have a higher ceiling.

Chess can make students and professional smarter if done on weekends and holidays. If they play on week nights neglecting homework and sufficient sleep, chess, TV and video games will make them dumber.

Well yah chess does make u smarter. It helps to improve ur thinking abilities, analitical abilities etc. But it's up to u to choose whether u r gonna use these abilities for good or bad purposes. We shouldn't think well and do robberies etc. We must use the skills we develop through playing chess to do good things like studying...So even though chess makes u smarter u should be smart enough to recognize in which way to be smart :D

So, if i acquire more knowledge and skills do i become more intelligent, or more knowledgeable or more skillful, or more knowledgeable and skillful?

If i forget something i knew, or forget something i knew how to do, do i become less intelligent? or less knowledgeable? or less skillful?

By defition, learning how to play chess automatically makes you more intelligent = smarter. Learning new lines, makes you even more intelligent.
