When I found this website, I was very content with a better alternative of Chess.com.

It is free, to pay for it is your personal choice, you can chose not to, or you can chose to pay
so it is free brother.. on chess.com you can not learn and work if you are not paying. Here however, you can pay, you are right on the fact tha it is your choice, but you can learn and be affective without paying. And that is also why I prefer lichess.org than chess.com!
To ask this question is to ask "why does this site exist?".

And if everyone chose not to, it would either A) not exist or B) be so full of ads that it would be miserable.
