We should use the Glicko rating system

The problem with the normal elo system is that it's not very accurate for people with lots of games, because their elo still swings wildly after every game. The Glicko system solves that. It's basically the same as the elo system but the more games you play, the less your rating changes after each game.

As far as I know nearly every other chess site uses it. We should too.

Rereading my post, I notice I sound like the Glicko system is the best rating system there is, but that's not what I meant. There are many systems that could be even better, like the Whole History Rating or the Trueskill system, but those might be harder to implement. The Glicko system is pretty simple and shouldn't take very long to code up.

As for the transition, you could either recalculate all the ratings or keep them the same, I don't really care either way.

There are some strange problem with ratings, at least they are very different from fide.

I know form real life 2 players here, they are sure 1900+ FIDE and they hardly get 1400 lichess rating. Why so much difference?

You arent supposed to compare FIDE with lichess.
The ratings are relative.

Someone may have 1700 USCF and be 1900 here,
at the same time someone may be 2000 FIDE and be 1600 here.

The example you give its not possible. A 2000 FIDE is about 2200 USCF, So how can a 1700 USCF have 1900 here and a player 500 elo stronger in real life be 300 lower online. We are speaking a delta -800 Elo points.

A 1700 USCF can be better at bullet than OTB.
So having higher than 1700 here should be possible for him.
