Suggestion: "Duplicate to new chapter" right-click option in study

I don't know if there's already a way to do this, but if there is, it's not obvious. I don't think it should be too hard to implement (since studies can already be exported to PGN), but I suppose it's not really my place to speculate about such things.

Anyway, sometimes when I'm making a study, I come across a line that I might want to investigate in depth while going over other stuff. After making a few moves, I realize it's actually quite interesting, and go a little further. Suddenly there are many moves and I think, "Hmm, I should start a whole other chapter for this."

So my suggestion is, when right clicking a move in the right sidebar, under "Annotate with symbols", include an option that says something along the lines of, "Duplicate to new chapter". If one selects this, a chapter creation dialogue appears to make a new chapter with the line that the selected move is part of, starting from the same FEN that the current chapter starts with, continuing with all branches after the selected move within the PGN. It can do this without modifying how chapter creation works, since all this would be doing is automatically putting a PGN string into the input area in the "PGN" tab for you.

Subtleties:

  • It could include all comments or just the ones at or after the selected move. Both could be argued, dev knows best. I'd personally go with only including comments at or after the selected move.
  • I said "all branches after the selected move within the PGN" just to be specific, but it could also be all branches that take place on moves after the current move - that is, alternatives for the selected move could either be included or not. As mentioned above, dev knows best.
  • One could argue for the view not switching to the new chapter for duplications (so one can choose whether to delete the variation from the old chapter), but that does go against what normally happens when a new chapter is created. Either works for me.

Example because I can't write concisely:

  • Let's say your study chapter goes 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 (2. f4 exf4 (2... Bc5) 3. Nf3 (3. Bc4) Be7 {freaking cunningham, man} 4. Bc4) Nc6 3. Bb5 a6
  • Now I right click 3. Nf3 in the move list and select "Duplicate to new chapter"
  • Chapter creation dialogue appears so I can name it. I put in a name.
  • I go to the "PGN" tab of the chapter creation dialogue to check if everything is how I want it. Yup, sure enough, it automatically says "1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 (3. Bc4) Be7 {freaking cunningham, man} 4. Bc4", or whatever the proper way of writing that in proper PGN is. Note that it doesn't include 2... Bc5 because it's before the move I copied, but does include 3. Bc4 because it comes after in the notation.
  • I press the "Create chapter" button.
  • I now have a chapter that is like the old one, as well as a new chapter that only includes the aforementioned KG line.
