IS there a way to have the board editor but synced with another player ?
Would be some kind o free study stuff.

@allafleche Yes, with the study feature. See my post here for some documentation.

@jomega but in a study are you allowed to make an illegal move for example ?
I would like to remove a piece, or add 3 bishops, do whatever i want on the board and synced with the other user.

@allafleche You can set up almost any position as the start of the study. When you create the chapter you have a choice of using a board editor, using FEN, or importing PGN. After that though, you cannot make illegal moves.

Yes that's what I've seen too.
Not what am looking for, but thanks anyways @jomega :)

I also do not understand what putting pieces in the board editor for a chapter in study implies in term of attached chess logic, when using the chapter.
for example I have been creating some personal plan of Knight paths discovery/visualisation/learning exercises or problems, starting with a lone knight in the middle of the board.
thing is, I can't move the knight. Must be a non-legal position (not move), as no game can lead to that.
What are the minimal board editor output positions requirements in terms of material and positions to have a workable study chapter in result?
any new chapter can be synced, but from within a chapter, is the op question as i understand.
Either by moving pieces or by editing chapter and choosing the board editor option to do what the op wants.
Problem is: if you choose the board editor panel, the tab quits the study and goes into the board editor, without a return address, if you insist and chose study from there, it will make a new chapter I think, not update the source chapter.
It should be clear that the board editor in "Edit chapter" does not behave as the board editor in "Create Chapter".
Or perhaps that was not intended, and there is a seldom explored bug there. or non-implemented feature.
I think my question is in the direction of the op, may not be fully satisfying... but would confirm that studies don't do it, or could do it.

Here are some thoughts and hints about using the study (I use now on a regular base with young children to teach them chess online):
- Studies can start with any position, but from that point of view, you can only do moves, if the start is a legal position (and the result as well).
- Legal: both kings on the board, no chance of wrong moves, ...
- When you have created a study chapter, you cannot change the position you began with afterwards. The only thing you can do is creating a new chapter, change the position in the beginning, and then redo your moves anew.
- A study cannot have more than 64 chapters, so plan carefully, how many chapters you want to have.
- If you show some other people your study, there is currently no way to ensure that the study will not change by using it. Every move you do additionally is only shown to the others, if you have REC and SYNC both with a green check mark.
- You can include in your study any markup: annotations, comments, arrows and circles, and they will be kept there.
- So after having shown a study to my childs in teaching something, I go everytime again through it, and delete everything that should not be there before hand.
- Sometimes, we faced lagging situations, so that the childs have to wait some seconds before they see the moves made.
- When the childs do anything on the board, they may be then out of scyn and have to press the button with the red numbers (the number of changes they are away from the current chapter). By doing that, they switch to the current view of the leading person in the study.
The whole description sound really complicated, but I wanted to be precise here. Using a study with others is no no-brainer, you have to learn and train that before you get fluent. And yes, there are some features missing, and some behavior is not as expected.
Hope that helps ...

@scstetten I have similar issues as I use studies to teach.
"So after having shown a study to my childs in teaching something, I go everytime again through it, and delete everything that should not be there before hand."
What I've taken to doing is to clone the study first. Invite the student. Make any changes I want with that student. When done, I can delete the cloned study.

@jomega Good idea, I will take that to my tool belt. I will try out what is kept, what not, to get a better feeling.
- When I disable REC, and make a first move on a study without moves.
- The moment I make the move, the SYNC button is red as well, and there is no sync between 2 browsers with different person.
- So REC has to be green.
- Same try now with SYNC --> disable
- Great, the 2 boards are in sync, but wait ...
- After some moves, pressing the SYNC button leads to the starting position (good), but the moves are kept (bad). And the other browser is out of sync as well (bad).
So I have to invest some more time, and perhaps file a "feature request" to have
- a study that is initially synced
- does some changes then visible to all
- and is then reset to the initial point in time (cutting moves, removing annotations, circles, arrows)
