Searchable game databases

There would be at least one advantage to having a database of master games here: the ability to easily run a Stockfish server analysis on the games.

Plus, I personally find the lichess interface a thousand times nicer than chessbase.

The lichess master game database was built from my personal database (called Gorgobase). TonyRo did some refining on it. I built the database from several free resources that have nothing to do with Chess Base. I took all of the TWIC pgns from #1 to present (the early ones were very hard to find!) and combined them with the PGNs from pgnmentor.com. The idea was that the TWIC games would give a healthy amount of modern games, while pgnmentor games would give the important historic games.

I put this here to be sure that there is no serious talk of copyright infringement with Chess Base's databases.

Searching for any game in this database would not violate any copyrights, period.

#13 Your collection is based on TWIC content copyrighted by Mark Crowther (or whoever supplied the games to him) and based on pgnmentor.com which literally states on the download page "Copyright © 2016 64 Squares."

I'm not advocating for IP laws; I'm just saying thanks to DMCA/SOPA/CISPA/PIPA and similar, web sites routinely get shut down for violation of IP laws.

Well, good luck to lichess, then.

#14: So, are you claiming that lichess is currently in violation of copyright?

It seems somewhat suspect to me to claim that chess games can by copyrighted (I am not a lawyer and will defer to those who know more), but I suppose even a meritless DMCA claim would cause serious problems for lichess.
