Is there any reason why I sometimes can't log in with the two-factor authentication, although I insert the code exactly the same way as other times? Today I had three failed attempts in a row without doing anything wrong, and had to connect with my mail. (I didn't even confuse the accs or codes this time.) The Google authenticator has been updated recently, and I'm wondering if it contributes to the problems. I understand that a vast majority of users doesn't have this problem, but I'm wondering if it's only me, or someone else as well.
One common problem with TOTP is that due to its design it depends on time synchronization between the server and client (or rather the device where the temporary code is calculated). It's not too sensitive (the code is valid for 30 seconds, IIRC) but if your time is off by e.g. 20 seconds or more, it can already a problem. Or if it takes you too long to copy/type the code.
It would be nice to have FIDO2 as another option but someone would have to implement it or find an implementation that could be used with lichess code.
Like #2 said, you need to make sure the time in your device that has lichess authentication page and the time in the device that has the 2fa app coincide.
If GoogleAuth keeps having problems I suggest you try another service, there's plenty out there.
