I've gone through several practice exercises. Most of them I understand, but there are many that I don't. The reason I don't is because there is no explanation given for the opponent's move. For example, as I'm thinking through the exercise I figure that after I make move 1 my opponent will make move A and get out of the trap. However, I make move 1 and my opponent makes move B instead, but with no explanation of why they did not make move A. Please provide some commentary as to why a "player" makes the move they did. Thanks.

Other sites, like chesstempo.com, offer commentary for each problem, and users have posted answers there to many questions that may come up as you think through a problem. Lichess uses the analysis board as an alternative. In my opinion, it fully replaces the comments, and is even better, since you can find answers to all your questions without having to rummage through wordy commentary.
In your example, you can simply enter your opponent's move B, and then find yourself - or use the engine - why it's not as good as A.

Telling you a little secret: there is most often commentary in the game chat of the game that the puzzle is taken from. A little counter-intuitive, though.
