The board aesthetically looks very nice, but for chess I view the very grainy dark squares as distracting. The contrast between light and dark squares is excellent. "Flat" textures are often preferred, after hours of use they are easier on the eyes.
Everybody has there preferences, the more selections available naturally is a good thing.

i am trying to work on it, but is very hard to create a nice board, i continue to try.....
I always have like the winboard by Mann. The white squares have a vague touch of yellow and match well with the shade of green.. Having grown up for so long with the vinyl green boards, that's my only preference. Brown works next best. People play with all colors. I suppose if it's their 1st choice and grow accustomed, it works great for them.
