playing 960 3 hours game but gets aborted if i dont rush the first move

Hey i just gotta ask, im new to chess. But i pick 960 cause i like the randomnes. So we start a game with 180+180 so we get alot of time. But game got aborted because i spent 40seconds to check the start position before making my first move. To me this is so weird, i got 3 hours to play but i have to rush my first move. I understand in normal chess its so easy to just do from memory but in 960 i have to check every pawn, which is defended and which is not. What pawn is best to move, should i take center or open up my bishop etc.

Are there a way that i can use the time i have even before move 1?

You have to play by the same rules everyone does.

They aren't going to have special rules for you. Few people like to sit at a chess board for an extended length of time, and then have the game abort with no moves having been played.

Tournaments might not abort if no one moves. That's your only realistic option if you don't want to move in a timely manner like everyone else does.

First move is a COUNTDOWN. Your clock doesn't start running before both players make their first move.

looking at chess.com, it immediately starts your clock and still aborts a game after a countdown that's not even displayed properly

Besides, if you didn't notice, 960 gives you more countdown than normal games of the same time

Yeah the only way so far i know to not get the rush to do move one is to play 960 in daily on chesscom.

Its the thing when you play 3 hour game with incrament. A game that might even last 5hours. So when you play a 5 hour game, you dont wanna just blitz out move 1. You wanna make a plan depending where you got the pieces.

I was hoping something that if i just could click a box, "im here i will play just dont abort".

Why is this getting funny (horsey) ?

Not sure why #2 had to be so aggressive. The guy wasn't asking to get special treatment, he's just making a perfectly legitimate point that the first move is very important in chess 960 and that changes to the countdown system at the start of a chess960 game might make a lot of sense (as some other forums have brought up).

Yes, @Jimemy's request makes sense completely. I really think that the first move should be counted normally at least in 960chess.
I know online chess is not the same thing like otb, but actually there is no reason to consider the first move as a part of the game even in standard chess. OTB the clock is started and running down on white's side until white happens to make their first move. Why not here, too?
But, yes, in chess960 it is actually not a "could" but a "must"!
