People who leave games without resigning

Well I can confirm this sucks around the 1700-1800 rating level. I think out of the games I won today, probably four different people did this. The last one had something like 7 minutes left on the clock I think.

If someone does this, the next time they log in, they should see a big flashing notification that they shouldn't, and next time after that should be a sizable ban IMO (whatever the length now is). Otherwise, surely you could implement a check for whether they tend to get "internet outages" in winning positions as often as losing ones.

Well I don't pretend to be able to see full picture here... just it really kind of sucks.

This guy disconnected 1 minute into a 3 minute game.

Coincidentally it was when he went 8 points behind.

I'm sure that strongly worded warning will put the fear of God into him.... of course he's offline so won't see it.
And.. here is another loser that should be banned
@Abram1111

At least he had the decency to wait for 1:45 to be left on the clock from his 3 minutes.

What does lichess get out of having these morons on the site?
They don't pay anything, so just ban them.
@LotBlind I'm at the 1900-2000 range, and this rarely happens to me at all. Off the top of my head I'd say it happens maybe once every 50-100 games.

That said, I also play Classical so that might be a difference too.

Lichess has measures in place to mitigate this behavior.
I know that people are getting temp-banned for this behavior every day.
I know that if it happens multiple times, the length of those bans increases exponentially.

Again, if you have 15,000 people playing games, it's bound to happen lots, be it on purpose or for a legitimate reason.

If it's always the same people doing it, then rest assured that they're getting penalized for it.
If it's legitimate power outages or other one-off occurrences, then users can effectively ignore the warning because it resets if it's not happening frequently.

Could they tighten the line a little bit? I have no idea.
There is a data-set that deals with this that nobody here has been privy to.

So for us to say that they need to tighten/loosen the penalties, without actually seeing who's being penalized or how they've set their algorithms, is probably not possible.

Of course it seems like it happens all the time and that it's the same TYPE of person doing it all of the time, but the optics might be far different from the reality.

Lichess has earned my faith that they've looked at the matter carefully and that they've dialed in the penalties to be balanced and effective.
@Onyx_Chess I'm sorry but your condescending "well I'm okay" has added nothing to this discussion and almost comes off fawning. Lichess has "earned your faith"? Well, no shit you might feel that way if it doesn't happen to you in your classical games.

Why don't lichess add something to a profile so we can see the number of times you've been banned?
