People that timeout instead of resigning

Okay let me play devils advocate.

One potential logical reason people would do this is:

Game Records.

If you resign a game it will go down as a resignation. So you dont really know why you resigned when you look at those months down the road.

If you feel you lost because of time (due to blundering from panic or what not) one might choose to let the clock entirely run down so it will be listed in clock flag losses rather than resign losses.

I dont actually believe 99% of people who do this care about this; BUT, its a possibility for at least some.

#19 This is not my post, but I offered a solution, exactly what you said that the objective of the post was. #20 I thought I fully explained how it worked, but maybe I forgot one important point: It would be 100% automatized, all the work would be made by a bot. After some time, feedbacks would show if there were any false positives. I guarantee that there will hardly ever be any false positive. Also, it does not mess with the rating system, neither bans anyone from playing, except in the arenas, for only 100 games, but during that countdown just 2 reports will make the countdown get back to 100. #20 There would be any extra workload on the admins. On the contrary, it will make disappear forever any workload based on a kind of report that is filling the forums and producing loads of complaints since forever, usually useless, everywhere in the internet. All this would be replaced by one single button and the respective bot that would take the automatic measures. And finally #21 absolutely not; again: They are saying to their opponent: OK, you humiliated me, but now I will humiliate you back by making you lose your precious time. They do that because they know there will be no punishment for this offense.
