Letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban.

  1. What for is this warning in blitz games?

  2. according to FIDE: "blitz game = 10 minutes or less for player"

  3. I'm 42 years old and it happens that quite simple move takes me about 2 minutes. And sometimes time is up.

  4. There is known blitz game of V. Anand, where he spent 104s on his 4th move!

This warning applies to players who intentionally leave the game when they are facing loss. And that happens quite often. This can be seen when the green dot (sign of being online) of the opponent is no longer green. Then he left the game. That is why this warning is very appropriate. This behavior is very unsporting and very annoying! And in my opinion the penalty of 10 Minutes is way to low!

odoaker2015, you are right. But warning appears also in the online case, you can easy check it. If I am online and time is going up then the warning is (very!) annoying itself. I am reasonable chess player, there is no reason for getting such warning, so this should be changed!

Well anyways this applies to players who let run out their time, so that they lose on time. Therefore your example with Anand is wrong. He didn't let run his time out. He thought about 1 minute for his 4th move and kept playing! And therefore the warning is appropriate for players who intentionally let run out their time so that they lose on time. Regardless if they are online or not. By the way, I never faced this warning. Not as far as I remember. @sklerotyk

I encountered the warning rarely ... trying to find a solution in a desperate position. So there are indeed cases where that warning is delivered to someone who didn't want to play unfair. But there is no penalty if that happens once in a while as in my (and, as I suppose, in the threadstarter's) case.

@odoaker2015 just try to lose blitz game by timeout after 90 sec. "thinking". Then, as you can see, warning appears.

Example of Anand is obviously a good example. As I said, it shows that move in blitz game can take long time. Indirectly it shows that the warning should be removed in the "online" case.

@sklerotyk If you have to think 90 seconds for a move in a blitz game, then blitz is not the right thing for you! Play higher time controls!

@sklerotyk If you see this warning only rarely, then ignore it.
