Is having multiple accounts allowed by lichess?

Is it okay to create a second account (ofc I will not play against myself) for the same person?

Only if you have a good reason for doing so. Don't just create another account just because you want to. That's what I've heard previously from lichess mods.

My reason is that I want to play ranked games when I'm tired or not feeling at my best, without ruining my main account's rating. I used to use chess.com for that (when I was tired or distracted I played there, and when I was not I played on lichess) but I like lichess better, chess.com is annoying :P

yeah i have two alts on here, one i want to keep anonymous due to personal reasons, which is one i only use for club activities, and another i have for bug testing (or really any crap) @emdryotest
perhaps i should close my testing alt

I don't see how it can be OK.

When I registered I had to agree not to :
"I agree that I will not create multiple accounts."
and it has a switch next to it that I had to toggle on to register.

I'm not a mod - just my 2 cents

I could do a lot with 2 accounts - e.g. use 1 for my real rating, and another to play <1500 tournaments, and only play this account when I'm tired or distracted ;)

ahh, but that would be wrong :(

You are allowed to create another account if the reasoning behind it is reasonable, but excessive multi-accounting is not allowed.

@xK4LIBUR I didn't remember that I had to agree to that, but it's been a while since I registered

@l-____-l and how do I know if my reason is valid enough?

Hi @l-____-l , strange unpronounceable name :), I would love to do that. (pronounce your name) Create a 2d account with another nickname. May I quote you, are you a mod?

What would reasonable be? A separate account for Rapid? But Lichess separates the styles automatically.
Different ratings for the same time control and variant? Really?
To play different people from different accounts? I want to play rated games with my kids, so they can get ratings, but that boosts my own rating too much. But is the rating algorithm not geared to treat that?

One account as coach to a team, school, or lichess, and another personal account - but that is a very specific exception, and I wonder if LiChess does not already allow for that, like a BOT account? The only other reason I can find is if you're a GM and occasionally want to walk among the common folk without intimidating them.

PS I am not trolling - I really want to create a second account, that is why I searched for the topic.

EDIT: I did find a very valid reason: Blindfold chess. there is no other way, as far as I can see, to keep your blindfold games separate from your normal games.

There is already a current thread on this topic:

If you have any good reason, it is allowed.

@xK4LIBUR perhaps like me, having an account with my name, as with town and chessclub, would be easy to find me.
The "I agree, to not multiaccount" is a newer thing, as i never specifically agreed to it (apart from on my personal account)
