When I'm using the analysis board to find out why my puzzle solution was wrong, sometimes the computer does a different move than I was expecting. That's interesting, but I also want to investigate my expected line to see why it fails. The only way I've found to do this is copy the game to the board editor, flip sides, start a new analysis board, make the desired move, and then repeat the whole process. It would be much easier if I could override the computer's move. Is there a way to do that?

Sometimes it can be wrong and should be reported

In the analysis board, return back before the move you want to try (arrows, mousewheel or simply click on the move before yours) and play the move you want to analyze. It will show as a variant. You can then also right-click on your move and select "promote to main line" (or something like that) to make your variant the main line and the original main line from that point becomes a variant.

mkubecek, thanks, but the computer won't let me move its pieces. I am only allowed to move my own pieces. I want to force it to make a particular move.

If you click on the bullseye to disable "Practice with the computer", you can make any move you want. Then re-enable Practice.

I don't understand. When I'm in the analysis board, there is no "me" and "computer", I can move the pieces of who is to move at the moment and the engine shows me the evaluation and best line(s).

Say I'm doing a puzzle. I complete it and get the thumbs up and down. I click on the blue target symbol below the green thumb and it takes me to the analysis board. I make my first move and the computer immediately makes its move. I back up one move and try to change the computer's move, and it won't let me. I can only move my own pieces.

mcgoves, yes, I see, the target symbol is indeed highlighted green. I didn't realize that was a highlight/selection. When it's deselected I can move either side and it shows the best move for both. Thanks very much. What a great tool.

If you want to analyze the position and moves after solving a puzzle (or failing to), you don't have to click the target icon at all, you can simply turn on the engine using the slider on top of the move list.
