Freestyle / Chess 960 - adding all starting positions to the analysis board?

First, this is my first post here, so thank you very much for this incredible site you are building and maintaining! This is part of the good side of the internet. (Free, no ads, no in-app-purchases, no pressure, etc. - that's soooo rare! Thank you also very much for leaving X!)

Is there a possibility to add all starting positions for Freestyle chess (chess960) at the analysis board? I can build it manually or add it via FEN, but it would be so convenient to just click on the positon I want... (lazy me).

I'm watching the Freestyle Grand Slam in Weissenhaus right now and am under the impression, that Freestyle is breathing new life into chess. So maybe Freestyle is the next thing in chess and having the starting positions available is interesting for more and more people. Who knows...

Many thanks for your time!

Andreas

All 960 of them in the menu? That's going to be a really long menu. I just don't see it from the UI-UX perspective. As you mentioned, you can always copy FEN from somewhere, like the board editor.

And also, Fischer-random existed since, you know, Fischer time, it's not something new. https://database.lichess.org/#variant_games doesn't show any tremendous spikes either, not that it would matter for the suggestion.

That is a good point! Maybe a field, where one can type the opening number in, would do it. Or a scroll down thing? Believe me: They have so much fun at the Freestyle grand slam right now. I haven't seen this kind of playfullness on high level chess before.

It would be indeed useful for Chess960 players if they could also enter the initial position number as an alternative to FEN, e.g. in board editor, when starting a game "from position" or when adding a new study chapter.

BtW, recently I wrote there must be lots of sites where you enter the number and it shows you the position in FEN format. Surprisingly, I couldn't find any. I found a lot where you can enter the number and they show you the position as a picture or present it in various format... but for some reason, not a single one provided output in FEN format.

On this very nice site https://www.mark-weeks.com/cfaa/chess960/c960strt.htm there is a downloadable zip-file with all positions:

You are right, @mkubecek, I too had expected to find these starting positons easier...

What I meant would be a simple form where I would enter the number and it would show the position in FEN format so that I could simply copy and paste it into lichess board editor or as an initial position for a study chapter. Which would be helpful when I read a message like "the position for today's games is 270".

I agree, just stumbled across this as well.
From the UI/UX perspective I would have expected an entry field, where I could input a number between 0 and 959 and it would have that setup. Instead there is... nothing. Meaning I have to know I need to go and get the FEN from somewhere, leave the site and come back.
You just lost 99% of people not bothering with the analysis board.
