forum to be closed

That forum could have been a nice place to discuss chess and report bugs. But instead it's full of stupidity. I suspect only a few bored teenagers are using it.

So it makes no sense to continue. I'll close it as soon as I have a moment to write the required code.

you could set a minimum amount of games to participate as in the chat, and ban undesired participants.

I think the forums are pretty useful.

Perhaps you could make some janitors to delete posts that are in the wrong category. That way you can maintain separate forums for bugs, discussions of games, and the rest of the inane banter. This would increase the usefulness of the first two categories of boards.

I will volunteer for janitor duties on discussion boards if no one wants to do it.

I think it's great. If you're concerned about bandwidth being drained by your procedurally generated chess CAPTCHAs, well then, write a better algorithm or get a better server goddangit!

This is the community of Lichess, without it it's just like Chess.com or FICS (no 'personalities' like Meph or mb).

one of the jobs us moderators do is clean the forums, but even so there are a lot of useless posts. we dont live here.

with that said I think vested_interests idea sounds "okay".
it would lower the activity on the forums (which can be a good or bad thing).

but a negative is sometimes people forget passwords, or have other problems and thats when "anonymous" users are handy.

so in general I have mixed thoughts on this issue.

but yeah, what he says is true. the forums is used for trolling.
There simply ain't enough mods and serious players to make this place worthwhile.
and before you do, let me copy down some actual useful information first.

Before you close I have a suggestion I've been procrastinating to make: Turn sound on only for new game alert, this way we could idle while waiting for a game and not have to turn off the sound since it keeps playing move after move.
