Draw by timeout vs insufficient material

I played this game today and lost because of time-out:

If a checkmate can be constructed by a series of legal moves, then material is sufficient.

Ok I see thanks for the responses. Still think it's a weird rule though because black can never force checkmate if white doesn't play ridiculous moves..

6 moves is quite nice. Wanna have 4 without promotion?

You mean like this? Can you force a win? Or you can only win by "ridiculous moves"?
