Closing an account and creating a new one

Hello everyone.

Is it ok to close my account and open a new one? It seems kinda tricky. However I found this on "Contact" page but I wasn't sure.

"It's not possible to clear your game history, puzzle history, or ratings.

However, you can close your current account, and create a new one."

Can anyone share their experiences or opinion?

Thanks.

Yep. You can do that. But you must close or it will be multi accounting and you get banned.

IDK why people close their accounts, some people say that when they create a new account they get proviosnal rating, but when you just get a bit higher rating with provisional you would get a non provisional guy with high rating and you would just go back to 1500s

But still, you can create another account, but you must close this account, if you reopon this again it would be considered multi creating accounts, which is not allowed

what's with all the misinformation?
here's the relevant section from the tos:

Untitled players can create a second account for similar reasons, with some examples including having a private account to hide opening preparation, playing “blindfold” games, or playing games with any other self-imposed impairment. Creating an excessive number of accounts (typically any more than three) will generally not be allowed, regardless of reasons. Creating and closing multiple accounts will also be treated as contributing to this maximum number. As with all other rules, the specific circumstances where multiple accounts are allowed remain at Lichess’ discretion.
