Cannot check with queen in atomic chess

I was just playing a rated atomic chess game and promoted a pawn to a queen but then i could not check my opponents king with this queen. Is this a rule of atomic chess or a bug? I am sure i have won by using the queen to check the opponents king in the past.

Here is the game (see move 46 for start of a series of ineffective checks):

There is a rule about it (i know it is strange at a first look, but you will understand why there is that rule as you will get stronger) See here https://lichess.org/variant/atomic

That's because his king is next to your king, so taking his king will blow your king also so its not allowed.

oh, yes. I remember, I was the opponent.... I told you the reason in the chat later, but you'd left by then.... When your opponents king is next to your king, you cannot check the king or attack a nearby piece, as that would also cause your king to... explode?. Anyways, I hope you understand now

Yes, i discovered something else recently. You can move if your king is in check! This is allowed if you can make a move causing your opponent's king to explode. What a weird game! I guess the idea is that the object of chess is to capture the enemy king so if you have a way to capture on your next move (explode the opponent's king) then you are permitted since you capture the king before your opponent does (on the move after their checking move).
