I've followed the software development industry for years, and one thing I learned is how hard it is for developers to see the user's point of view and not think we're idiots. Often they just don't care what we think, and want to build what suits themselves. I get the impression this is less of problem these days, though. Anyway, IMO there are problems, but overall I think the Lichess developers do an outstanding job of design.

The good thing about Lichess is that most developers are also users. So they know what chess players need or want.
