I think that would be a nice addition. Would allow for things like balancing out very imbalanced variants by giving black an extra pawn. As it is now, "from position" counts as a variant in itself so its only possible to play custom boards with standard chess rules.

@FindusMaximus - There is a setting on the board editor, to set a game for all the variants offered on Lichess. Look for the 'Variant / Standard' icon , click on that, and a drop-down menu will give you a selection for each type of variant. - :]
