Adding Delay as a Time Control Option

As per title, I think this would be a nice addition to increment. A lot of OTB tourneys use delay and I think it would be nice to be able to replicate it online.

Thanks!

What do you mean? Can you please elaborate?

@MercySoul

with delay, 1+2 would not be you gain 2 seconds for every move you make, instead it would be that your timer does not start for the first two seconds on your turn.

On the Android app, you can already use a clock with delay as an option. I would be interested to see if there would be a way to implement it (although it make be difficult for new players to differentiate between delay and increment). Nice idea!

The idea behind it OTB is so a player has time to write the move down without affecting the clock.

Last OTB tourney I played in was my first time with Delay. They played 30 min, no increment, 5 second delay.

So, if I am playing quickly and I play my move while the delay is only at 3 seconds, the delay stops when I hit the button and the turn begins for the opponent. But I do not get any additional time for that. Unused delay is just gone. doesn't mean much for 5 second delay, but if it were say 15 seconds, then that would be easy to write the notation and move again.

I don't think I ever wrote my notation and made a move within the 5 seconds though.
