I think that this would be very difficult to implement -Different board shape is needed and the game seek and game joining would have to be changed so that 2 people can join the same seek. Also, which version are you asking about? There seem to be loads.
I think https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-player_chess would be easier, and the code used to proccess the seeks could also be implemented to get bughouse into Lichess.
Now we're talking - love that idea! Also, the four player board layout seems more logical to me. And if it allows bughouse to be made possible, then I'm sure loads of people would love to see this.

It's a really good game, above all, on my own, when each player is side by side with his friend. The parties when 2 peoples of the same team are face to face are too long because the pawn promotion is quasi impossible..
I'm looking for this game since a long time and I found nothing..
