Hi all,
I've recently switched to playing the English opening, and have noticed a pattern of players aborting games as soon as they see 1.c4, especially in shorter time controls. Does Lichess take this kind of behavior into account when determining repercussions for aborting too often? If not, would this be a desirable new feature?
Kind regards,
Clarice

Dear @Clarice_Nesbo - 1.c4 is scary, they fear it and run away :D
The system which tracks those people is already implemented: check the game-chat after someone aborts a game vs. you.
It you will see there is a warning adressed at your opponent: "Warning XYZ aborting too many games will result in temporary ban".
Well, you wont be notified if they are temporary banned (prevented from playing), and the duration of this playban increases with each infraction.
It is 10 minutes on first offence (after 5x being warned in last 30 lost or aborted games) and how much longer they will be prevented from playing later, I dont know.
Hope that explains and helps - all best with your new english opening! :-))

I also love to play the english - and yes - sometimes they are scared - but as I reached higher rating they are not scared anymore and often they know very well how to play against it and great games come out of that.
I think lower rated players just don't know how to answer - they know only e4 or d4.
Maybe you can train your self to get just a smile when you scared them to resign just with your first "unusual " move. :)
Good Luck and lot of fun with the english opening.

@Clarice_Nesbo You could try playing in tournaments, where aborting is not allowed.

Thank you all for your answers. @Funkmaus maus, I am aware of the system. I was just wondering if it was an idea to attach a weight to abort depending on the opening against which they abort. @KingThisPawn thank you, I'll try to look at it more pragmatically. @minecraft358 thank you, it is a great suggestion.

I don't think that resigning it's a good idea. But it seems that users have no choice how to play. Most of games it's not some competitions and we play just for fun. But with this bans for resigning it means that any user must play any opening, even in case if it's extremely boring for him/her.
So it seems stupid to resign in such cases, but from the other hand it's wrong to force users to play openings which they don't want to play at all.
