I would like a timer I can toggle if I want to time my puzzles and if possible have the length of time affect what lichess says is a strength or weakness

For regular puzzles. I don't want to race the clock just see how long a puzzle takes without having to have a separate timing device. I was thinking more like how chesstempo does it

Ah... yeah, at the time Storm and Racer were developed I was curious why there wasn't introduced a way for players to track time per puzzle (without it affecting ratings).

Consider chess puzzles like home work. First the puzzles section would ask you how long you plan on doing puzzles. So you select 15 minutes workout. Once the 15 minutes is up, the question would reappears. Is it time for a break ?
The amount of time spent on each puzzle will never be the same. There is no one size fits all, so maybe increment time could do useful. If the increment timer is used up, the pieces start fading away. Getting smaller and smaller until the mouse is moved. This might help maximize our time-management skills.
The timer could behave like a screen saver. If you move, it proves you are awake. Visualizing and solving puzzles after the pieces have faded away. Looking forward to see the comments for the study-buddy timer.

@Toscani when i use a physical tactics book i set a timer for 15 minutes, writing the answers and marking whether i got the answer fast or slow, but thats vague since i dont want to stare at the timer too.
Recently ive been doing online puzzles with a different goal/mindset. i made a second account just to do hundreds of unrated puzzles around my blitz rating. once i get those in a snap with high accuracy ill work the puzzle rating up 100-200 points and repeat. the friend that gave me this idea also showed me a reddit post by an IM. in it the IM said something like, 'if you dont see the pattern in a minute, you dont know it.' which gave me the idea for this request.
@Toadofsky maybe in the puzzle themes have a rating band filter? so people can grind simpler patterns and keep their higher rated puzzles for more complex visualization practice. have the rating band theme unrated so people cant do 10000s for insanely high puzzle rating

That's a healthy attitude; adding a timer could also pressure many players to move quickly too instead of doing the sort of exercise you're doing.
As for the rating filter... we used to have difficulty settings which were removed for database performance and code complexity reasons. Puzzle Streak is good for grinding easy puzzles: https://lichess.org/streak

Have the timers default as off and small when on? maybe transparent so its not attention grabbing? right now i can be honest with myself and say 'this one is taking me a while' look at the solution and move on. it would be nice though to have a timer to be completely objective about it.
I really like puzzle streak and the difficulty setting on the puzzles is pretty much what i was talking about so thank you for reminding me that was already a thing.
