We have "Continue from here" feature in the analysis board, but we don't have a friend available all the time and it doesn't give us an opportunity to play this with someone preferred rating range.
I suggest a new game mode (i.e.: "Play a certain position") which can be visible in lobby and if you want to play the given position and color you can join & start playing. Also you can easily study openings with someone instead of AI.

It's a good suggestion, I think, and analagous to "endgame tournaments" which some correspondence chess bodies offer. Games are then started from a particular endgame position.
The difficulty I see would be whether you allow players themselves to select the starting position. If you don't (and just use standard ones) it would be less versatile and you might not be able to practise the particular position you want to. But if you do, it could be abused by players who construct a position which looks level but isn't, or maybe one which contains a hidden trap.
