I can see how that would be an upsetting thing to uncover. He has a hard time accepting it. I think he was just asking for help, he wants to improve and branch out from 0+1.
Well, if you can see this, It's_Been_Awhile, my advice is to simply play more chess with a time control of >0+1. Bullet (especially if you only play 0+1) can leave you in a rut and hinder any real progress in chess.
I know it's addictive to stick with 0+1, but if you want to get better at blitz, then you need to get better at chess, and play longer time controls at least occasionally.
