@tpr Be7 deals with the Qe2 preventing a quick d5 and can lead to more regular French defense lines. Be7 was shown in a video by GM Var Akobian. I decided to give it an exclamation mark which was perhaps not called for.
With your c5 suggestion the game goes into a Sicilian style setup without a quick d5 which might not always be preferred by the player playing the black pieces.

Idea of 3.Nc3(natural move,if engine evaluates it like ? probably should study chess a bit more) is making hard push ...d5(typical of a french player) going on to follow same idea of 2.Qe2.
