What is the best openings

There is no best opening, some openings might be generally better than others (for example, Queen's Gambit is better than King David Opening and Bongcloud).

Instead, you should try to learn an opening that matches your style and interests you, try to learn all variations of the opening. and the main theory of it.
#10 No, I am annoyed by general chess discussion being completely clogged-up with "Best opening" threads, which is--like I said; spam, and should stop.
It depends on your skill level and goals.

If you are a beginner and you want to learn. the first step is seeing if a stone is hanging.

The second step (interweaved with the first one) is learning combinational patterns. This is done best in open positions - not to mix with open games. Open position are those with free diagonals and ranks and lines for your pieces. So choose openings leading to that. If you don't know your goals, as most players at the beginning, try to select something to bring your pieces out and secure your king. Gambits are a great learning tool in this phase.

If someone recommends you an opening ask yourself: Is he looking at my skills or is he looking at his love? What is the reasoning behind the recommendation, if there is any?
