Use of DGT boards on lichess.org

Honestly all this technical jargon is beyond me BUT, and this maybe be a naive question, but if dgt software converts your move to chess notation, and Lichess accepts keyboard move inputs couldn't you just write a little script to take the moves from dgt software and paste into lichess?
And vice versa for your opponents move?
From what I've heard DGT software is literally garbage. Which is probably why there are no options.
All big tournaments in US that I see use DGT(I'm not talking about US championship I'm talking about other big tournaments like World Open)
Every chess tournament uses DGT. It has been the only option for ages.

clono.no/ is a newer addition that might be usable.
@LarsenB "I really, really dislike the way this was handled, and more so the fact that Lichess has decided to make an specific exception for the app and basically give just the same "either bot or GTFO" response to any other user/dev that would have liked to write integration code... why are they endorsing a 3rd party paid app in this way?"

Not exactly. From lichess discord chat:

as I just said "we no longer accept new clients".
acidape appeared many years ago, while we still did accept new clients
it would have been a dick move of us to cut their access to lichess
@gbtami I understand that it was a previous decision, but on the other hand at the time the app was also free.

It's still a different kind of dickish move to let them retain non-bot priviledge (they didn't need to cut access completely, just treat them as any other custom client), and have now a payed software that can use lichess+dgt integration as a nice and exclusive selling point for a 50 bucks in-app purchase, while every other implementation, even free, is restricted

It may not be an official, explicit endorsment on their part, but for all practical purposes it is.
@lovlas "From what I've heard DGT software is literally garbage. Which is probably why there are no options. "

There's plenty of options, only for other platforms... ICC, FICS, Playchess all have one or more GUI that integrates the DGT libraries

@President_DonaldDuck "but if dgt software converts your move to chess notation, and Lichess accepts keyboard move inputs couldn't you just write a little script to take the moves from dgt software and paste into lichess?"

You can, and I think at some point someone did exactly that (one example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRwOUDbQjnc)... then lichess policies changed regarding that kind of stuff, and you can now only play as a "bot" account or otherwise run the risk of being flagged
Leaving aside the principle of the thing, I wonder how practical using a DGT board online really is. Most people here play rapid chess, and when you run into time trouble, moving your opponent's pieces as well as your own would be a serious handicap. I can see it being good for long time controls but I don't see it for rapid and definitely not for blitz.
@LarsenB I highly agree on your suggestion! (just treat them as any other custom client)
