Timer cheats

I’ve played three games this evening vs opponents whose timer stops functioning when they’re losing the game with minimal time remaining on their clock. I’ve started to wonder if it’s a glitch on my end, but I don’t believe so. One player was able to move his pawns up to get about three queens all with .5 seconds left. The timer runs out but then goes back to where it was before the opponent moved and the game continues. Some of his turns were well over the .5 seconds that was left!. Pretty frustrating to say the least. Anyone else experiencing this?

I know about premoving. This is not premoving. Like I said, a couple of turns were at least a couple seconds, but the timer didn’t run out.

Also clicked on your link. No lag and connection is good.

i believe InkyDarkBird is intending you to read t his part

"Lag compensation
Lichess compensates network lag. This includes sustained lag and occasional lag spikes. Compensation limits and heuristics are based on time control and already compensated lag, so the result should feel reasonable for both players. As a result, having a higher network lag than your opponent is not a handicap!"
i.e. when your opponent''s clock goes back up, that's lag compensation

847,150 Blitz players this week. 3 to 8 minutes / game
518,056 Rapid players this week. 8 to 25 minutes / game
445,196 Bullet players this week. < 3 minutes/game

055,439 Classical players this week. >25 minutes/game
016,861 UltraBullet players this week. < 30 seconds/game

The top three are popular. @Margareepostmaster
My preferences: 3m+2s to 15m+10s

My profile shows Blitz most often, but this year I'll be working on my rapid games.
BULLET: 5,979 games
BLITZ: 12,527 games
RAPID: 5,083 games
In the lobby my preference custom setting is set at 5+3 with rating range of 0 to +50.
That this has happened 3 times in one night and others haven't had the same problem or at least made similar observations, makes it seem like the problem is not likely cheating.

as described, there's a possibility it's your end that's lagging.

the clock you see running isn't the game clock, the game clock is on the server.

every time your browser receives a move, the clock you see is updated to the time on the game clock.

so, if there's a network issue somewhere between you and the server slowing down communication, let's say it takes 2 seconds for your browser to receive a move, with only 0.5 seconds left on their clock, the clock you see is going to hit 0, then when you receive the move 1.5 seconds later, your clock is going to be updated to the game clock. Also, in that situation, it's going to be very easy for them to premove so their clock would never lose any time.

If you're playing on a browser, you can hover your mouse over your name (I think it's your name), and it'll show a graph of how fast or slow your connection is.
