As mentioned in the title, just like Bobby Fischer he used to travel with a pocket chess set every single time whenever he used to get free time or when he was travelling? So should one also kept one with them to become good at chess?
In the old days everybody carried a pocket set.
Nowadays a cell phone has replaced it.
It's far from obligatory, but some players (like me) travel with a pocket chess set, or even with more of them.
i think your mobile device is good for that.
you can use the mobile, but to me there's nothing like getting a bit of space on one of those tiny folding table they used to have on the hard seat trains and setting up the travel set with a good book and pulling out book of games. (and the looks I used t get rrom other passengers who wondered who my opponent was)

Sure, although it probably isn't necessary to carry around a pocket chess set everywhere because you probably have a phone. Having a phone gives you much easier access to online multiplayer chess and multiplayer chess in general than a pocket chess set.
Sure, a pocket set is essential, just like a pocket watch, compass, local map and torch. Fischer liked his in leather.

I think the SmartPhone has replace it.
