Quantiles

With my anon. prep account I have reached an all-time high with 2413.06 which yields a quantile of 99.1%. Nice^^

Here Blitz 2412.18 is sticking to percentile 98.9%.

I simply doubt that there is large spike in the distribution at 2413, in other words I have overtaken many players (0.2% in that range) gaining a mere 0.86 points.

Or is Sarg0n‘s percentile not up-to-date owing to passivity?
I made myself similar questions, and came to the following explanation:

- percentile computations are not continuous, but based on intervals
- those intervals are of equal width, namely 25 rating points
- those intervals are centered around ratings that end in 00, 25 ,50 and 75 (for example 2400, 2425, 2450 and 2475)
- therefore the boundaries between intervals are located at ratings that end in 12.5, 37.5, 62.5 and 87.5 (for example 2412.5, 2437.5 and so on)

In your case, it happens that with your 2413.06 account you fall into the interval centered at 2425, while with your 2412.08 you fall into the interval centered at 2400, therefore the apparent jump of 0.2% despite such little difference.
Just google quantile, percentile or decile.

d90 is the value where 90% of the distribution is reached.

Btw, I reached 2420^^

The word “quantile” comes from the word quantity. In simple terms, a quantile is where a sample is divided into equal-sized, adjacent, subgroups (that's why it's sometimes called a “fractile“). It can also refer to dividing a probability distribution into areas of equal probability.
