Learn to play the Caro-Kann Defense!

As part of our ChessPathways.com "Openings" series, I created a video explaining the key lines of the Caro-Kann Defense. This opening has served me well throughout my chess career, so I hope you enjoy it!

Feel free to ask me any questions you have in the comments - and if you haven't already, please visit ChessPathways.com and get signed up! It's completely free, only takes a couple seconds, and I'll send you a free "Move by Move Guide to Chess Thinking" when you join. I want to help more players become masters.

Enjoy the video!

You're a good speaker with a pleasant tone of voice, and you've got decent audio quality, so your video is pretty easy to watch, unlike many of the small channels out there. I'll definitely keep an eye out for your work.

Enjoyed this as an exclusive long term caro-kann player myself. Confirmed a lot of my strategic thinking.

Thanks, very interesting video. I played thousands of Caro-Kann games here on Lichess with Black.
But one line you did not cover is the so called Hillbilly attack 2. Bc4. I do not think it is too good for White, but I encountered it quite a couple of times.

I liked the other videos you've released. I'm really looking forward to your new opening videos.

#2 is right about the A/V quality.

#4 is right about how well you explain the strategy. Watching your videos has really helped me, but I've gotten a lot more out of the info you've shared in your emails.

I'm sure glad I signed up at ChessPathways.com - a lot of excellent advice. My favorite piece of advice was the critical position thinking - and it was explained well in the video.

Love getting the Hillbilly. Best named opening ever.

How about 2.f4?
