I saw that the engine immediately puts white at a +.9. Is this bad for black?
Try doing Stockfish’s best move for both sides through the entire game. If White wins your theory is correct.

+0.9 is a very miniscule advantage! If you take a look at the opening book (the book symbol), you may find out that Black's win rate is equal; if not better!
On the other hand, if you are inquiring about engines, things are not much different! Just like in standard chess, draws are much more common than a decisive result.

@Pandas_of_the_Night Yeah you're right but that seems very tedious. Maybe someone could be up for that.
@annoygenius Okay then that's interesting. When talking about the book symbol are you talking about the chess.com engine? And if black's win rate is better wouldn't that still be an uneven game? Very interesting stuff though; the same happens for some positions in chess960.
