I may start teaching Chess very soon to beginners and I'm wondering where to start. After teaching the rules and basic checkmates, I'm unsure as to how to teach fundamentals principals and build intuition(assuming that's what I should do.) I'd really appreciate help from anyone, ranging from beginners opinions to maybe even long-time teachers.

The best advice I could give at this stage is to avoid trying to conduct your teaching whilst being an in-patient.

"... Logical Chess [(Batsford edition by Chernev)] ... a collection of 33 games ... is definitely for beginners and players who are just starting to learn about development, weak squares, the centre, standard attacking ideas, and the like. In many ways, it would [be] a wonderful 'first' book (or first 'serious' book, after the ones which teach the rules and elementary mates, for example), and a nice gift for a young player just taking up chess. ..." - IM John Watson (1999)

"... Apart from openings and middlegames, the student is commonly advised to study the endgame, sometimes with an admonition to stay away from serious opening preparation until an unspecified 'later'. When I was beginning to play chess four decades ago, this advice was ubiquitous, accompanied by the 'fact' that all the Soviet children learned endings in depth before they were allowed to play any games. That turned out to be an utter myth, but there's no doubt that learning a limited set of basic endings is absolutely essential for your development as a player. ..." - IM John Watson (2010)
