Chess openings names

Is it possible to create an opening that doesn't have a name or has never been used before? Btw, I don't think mine has a name

Yes it is possible. But it's hard to create a new one that cannot be refuted easily. Because even some of the known openings or gambits have been refuted and are considered not good enough for high class chess.

Trying out your own ideas is great! Keep doing what you do there is still enough to explore. You can also add a new variation to an already known opening and surprise your opponent with it.

I have known one user here on lichess who created his own opening but it was refutable and also very similar to the giuoco pianissimo. Still it was individual and he scored well with it in blitz matches :)

BenTor tried it too and invented something that combines elements of the english opening, king's gambit and bird's opening.

So to answer you question: It is hard to create something completely new. But it is possible to create something individual an to play unknown lines.

Do you want to show your opening maybe? Then we can tell you about it.

@Majaivane Yeah. It's called creativity. You can create whatever you want. The hard part is getting a definite consensus of international recognition for your opening name.

This depends upon what is considered an opening. Every one of the 20 first moves has a name. Computers, assigned to find the best opening, have played through every possible position for, at least, the first 5 moves.

@Majaivane just post the link of a game or two where you used it :) Maybe also explain your basic ideas of the opening where you plan on developing your minor pieces to.
