Buying 1\2 points at tournies, any thoughts?

To me it stinks, f you can't attend the tournament due to any reason then so be it. Can anybody exaplin how the is fair in any way?

The only argument that I can think of is the fact that everyone playing agreed to the rules, and the rules are the rules. However I find this rule a joke!

I love chess but when I learn about things like the it just doesn't sit right. Is there any other game, sport or whatever that allows you to buy points because you can't turn up to the event and actually earn them properly.

So if you feel like it you can buy your way to play only 2/3rds of the tournament! What the....arrrrghh!
I guess you are speaking about the *bye* system some tournaments have, where a player can choose to skip one round and get a half point. I've never heard of points being (legally) sold/bought.
I‘ve never seen ANY tournament in Germany at all.

I think this is common in the US/UK at weekend tournaments.

I think ur talking about the late point which awards half point..ur talking about it right?
the bye system for tournaments most of the time only allows one full point bye and one half point bye I think
In most tournaments you are allowed to bye 3 rounds all for 1/2 point byes. But, I don't think there is a point of doing that because you paid to play chess and get rating! Not just, play 2 rounds. Also, you only win or lose rating from games that you play. You don't win or lose any rating from the byes.
@XxNoeXx

That's what I think too.

I don't think anybody understands what I am talking about.

@SteveBobMan the tournament I am speaking of allows you up to 3x 1\2 point byes or buys. I'm unsure how the word is written.

@IveBeatenTal I have no idea what the late point awad is. Iam literally talking about a tournament that allows you to bye or buy (unsure of the word) up to 3 1\2 points. Essentially skipped three games and took draws because they were unable to attend the the games.

@sheckley666 Similar, but in this tournament you can bye three 1\2 points. What do you think about that?

Just seems wrong. Something doesn't feel right about it. If you cant attend the game you forefiet your chance of scoring 1\2 a point. Especially if you can't attend THREE games then no way should you be able to bye 1.5 points as you can in said tournament.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I'm not governing any chess matches but if I were...
''bye'' point (usually in Swiss tournaments) is NOT chosen at random from the player. The bye point always goes to the lowest rated player within the group with the lowest score in case the round (pairs)is uneven. That happen bcs is one of the least likely player/s to win the tournament or affect the final placings.
I never heard for a ''bye'' point chosen from the player. If is this legal by rules in some federations , then YES is ridiculous
People do pre-arrange games, even whole matches are being set up. All according to agreement and mutual benefit, if that's what you mean.
