Out of all the promotions it is the lowly bishop that is the least likely to get promoted. Queen promotion is by far the most promoted piece, the knight is the second, which make sense since its L-shape make it great for forking and checks, the third is a rook promotion which generally happens if a queen promotion would cause a stalemate. And then there is the lowly bishop promotion.
Is there any games where there is a bishop promotion and why did that particular player did a bishop promotion then the more better queen, rook or knight promotion?
Such cases are very rare, but they have occurred in real games.
There are some examples on the wikipedia article on the subject, but before reading that, try constructing a position yourself where promoting a pawn to a bishop is the only winning move or the only non-losing move, as it is an interesting exercise.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(chess)#Bishop_underpromotionYeah, you promote to a bishop when you're messing around with an opponent who can't find the resign button
@SavageAntarctican and
@Chiksan Is there any games you played that you did a Bishop promotion?
@Official_LLL On occasion as a joke because promoting to a queen would have the same effect as promoting to a bishop at times because the promoted piece will be captured anyway.
www.youtube.com/channel/UCDdrifigi79urTDJeSMbUog promotes to a bishop just to mate with a bishop and knight.
More a quiet joke by my opponent, Black was about 2300 Elo.
