Bird's Opening - Sound or Folly?

It's fine, but mono thematic, meaning White's set up is a bit inflexible and commital, Black will know alot of your moves before you make them. If Black knows what to do, you could be in trouble.
Probably a folly (judging from the replies here), but I still occasionally play it. It's boring to always start with e4 or d4, and at my level you still can squeeze out a win with it.
I LOVE 1.g4... Usually leads to aggressive games.
But since I haven't studied the opening for white in detail, I usually have no chance against 2k+, but it will still occasionally take them out of all their opening theory if it's an opening they have simply dismissed... I consider it an equalizer vs players who know their openings.
I often push G5 and H4 early too, to really attack the king side. I used it just to "test it out" about a month ago, but now it's the only thing I play in bullet games, to avoid the standard locked up games I used to get when playing English&London which too many players are familiar with now.
Really exciting games with lots of attack!
PS/Edit: Mostly 2/0 timer games for me... Would never do it in a standard game.
Just one video about 1. g4 lol (English subs included):

Consider it *lost* on the 3000+ engine level. On the human level it is definitely not lost, but basically this is just giving too good chances for black in exchange for an almost certainly fun play. 1. f4 is much better than 1. g4 but it is also more boring.
