It's a great puzzle, and without your hints, I wouldn't have been able to solve it. Funny how the engine's eval stays positive up to four moves or so before the actual mate.
Yeah that's like, the oldest Java chess engine I know lol. It takes like 25 seconds to search 8 half-moves deep; the PHP Crafty engine here takes less than a second. It's really old-fashioned and

Ah I'm sure you could have. Well, I know I started having Rybka out to test if it would solve the position for mate, but it did nothing but show perpetual check up until the last 14 moves before
mate. So I only halfway did it without help myself. Man, the composer of this puzzle must have been involved in some serious shit.
