Why has this opening not got a name?

In the French someone just played it against me.

1.e4 e6
2. d4 d5
3. c4?!

Pretty weird move. After taking dxe4 it's called the Diemer-Duhm gambit. Anyone else came across this?
It has no name because it is bad. Black takes 3...dxe4 and stands better.
I can think of a couple of variations where it can lead to. So it has no name because it's not clear where it's heading to. Diemer is one of those, sure.

Diemer-Duhm gambit indeed. I've played hundreds of blitz games with it as white with pretty good results.
Often black players lash out their auto-pilot moves like in their usual French or Caro-Kann, they sometimes get too optimistic, and make mistakes. In the French version black is a pawn up, but a doubled pawn.

All the first moves for white have a co-ordinate name and an ECO name. Every move is a new position. Does it really need a name? Maybe a number like 960.

With blacks possible moves the first move is now complete for both sides. The name might even have changed as the moves go on. It's a bit like chemistry and the naming of a molecule. Example H2O is Water, combine it with something else and it's no longer water.

Chess pieces that combine together to make a tactic should have a unique tactical name. Training puzzles could then use these unique names to identify the puzzle. Example: A Dirook combination: Two rook combinations. A Dirook + Tripawn combo (R2P3 Combo puzzle positions).

It's a question of creating a naming system that is clear and concise. Like the algebraic chess notation. Once learned ever position would have a name. The system needs a bit of brain storming. Rather than using the present naming system, we would have a new modernized naming system.
There are a few lines that dont have "a name" mostly an opening, gets it name after som grandmaster ( like Karpov etc ) have play the variation in som GM or IM ( etc ) turnement .
But even here, you can somtimes find a vell know opening, that dosen have a name. eks ( for fun I like to call this: the Hansen gambit. ( lol ) e4 - e5.2.d4 - exd4 ( the game start as a center gambit)
3.Nf3 - Nc6.4. Bc4 - Bc5.5.c3 - dxc3.6.Bxf7+ - ... This system can take the game in to well known spanish and Italian games, but the variation dosen have a name yet......
