It seems as if no effort was put into this, someone just randomly came up with the idea justa few minutes before Posting.
The horsey one was by far the best and the most believable

Developing a feature just for it to be live for only one single day really sounds like no effort was put into this.

Thomas wrote the physics engine (https://github.com/lichess-org/lila/blob/master/ui/round/src/plugins/round.yeet.ts) and Michael even recorded the sound effects for it! We had fun making this one.

And yes I think it will remain available as a perpetual easter egg. Why not?
