The Cultural Misunderstanding Behind Cheating Accusations

Cheaters are simply low-life bags of stuff.
And people that accuse others of cheating are low life's also.
Avoid both cancer grows.

Why is it that online top players get 10+ places on live tournaments or don't even participate, considering much higher rewards?

There are numerous mistakes here.

  1. The Russian school of mathematics is especially famous in the field of probability, e.g., Chebyshev, Markov and the greatest probabilist in history Kolmogorov.

  2. The Russian language chess community is hardly limited to the citizens of Russia. It also includes Ukraine, all Central Asian players, Armenia, Israel, Georgia etc. Plus a large percentage of American and European chess players. Only India and China don't have Russian-language grandmasters. This makes the "Russian" community as large as "non-Russian".

  3. The statistical approach yields MORE accusations than the "rigorous proof" approach.

  4. The most famous accusation of cheating comes from Magnus Carlsen, who can hardly be called "Russian".

A bit of historical context is also useful. Think back to the 60's when Fischer was accusing the Russians of cheating by agreeing to draws with other Russians in order to focus on beating non-Russian players. I'm sure this history is part of the culture of chess in Russia...

If the moderators on the different digital chess platforms did their job well, eliminating cheaters, they would be left with practically no users. And if there are no users, there is no money. "We will moderate, but only to a certain extent, which does not affect our income" Money above Chess itself! So much so that grandmasters have been affected and no longer play on these platforms. "Let's leave the wheat with the tares" what matters is the $$$ remember that.

How is this at all a Russian phenomena outside of Kramnik? This blog post is basically a nothing-burger of "Russian chess culture bad"

Oh come on just look at the statistics.

Well only case where language barrier could come in is in cases like this one that happened a while ago where my opponent had a Kramnikesque mindset where my opponent got a bit excited when I "confessed" after reaching the only logical conclusion that only way I could beat someone rated 300 points lower than me after they blundered a piece was with outside assistance. Here is the rough conversation

Opponent: Are you using a computer?
Me: Yes
Opponent: Really?
Me: It's the internet, doesn't everyone use a computer?
Opponent: What are you using?
Me: It's a Dell PC, unsure exactly what model it is...
Opponent: You know I meant a chess computer...
Me: Never used one before

Can't remember the rest but it was a more innocent time where even the concept of using a chess engine didn't occur to me while my opponent convinced I had "slipped up" after admitting to using a computer to play chess online (how else was I going to connect to the internet 25 years ago?) was 1000% sure I was guilty.
