Chess Football: A Fun and Creative Variant

if its possible to do that and avoid any knight moves, maybe the rules should change somehow. but for kids can be fun until someone find a definitive way to win or not to lose. Thanks!
You can pass to the g file or b and somehow still play but, it makes much harder.
This would be a really fun variant!

One question, if you were to surround your king on e1 (let's say ur white) with pieces, that would make it IMPOSSIBLE for your opponent to score, guaranteeing a draw or a win. If your opponent does the same, it is a forced draw off the bat.

Seems like a huge flaw, or is there something that I missed?

You can position your knight on g2,f3,d3,c2 and score a goal directly. The knight is very important in this variant.
If you place your knight into one of those squares its very dangerous
So the goal can't be blocked by pieces as seen in the picture. But normally the ball is blocked, right?

You could use a Shogi board, probably not as cheap to get as a chess board, but it's a nice game by itself.
And for this purpose, well it's 9x9 on squares.
I tried a few games against myself, and I find there can be a draw strategy carried out in this way:
One side grabs the ball and passes to the friendly army, then hides the ball and gradually moves that to the corner, and then he puts five pieces to block all the squares so that the other side has no chance to even touch the ball. He can also organize the left 3 pieces for a goal, and look for a chance to kick the corner ball out, probably it won't succeed.

Surely there're counter plays against this nasty strategy (like occupying the corners), and maybe some will work. But it's not very football-like though.
Maybe this variant needs further development to prevent the football hiding gameplay
