Hiarcs Chess Explorer Pro 1.4 versus ChessBase 18

Hi! One of my students uses a Mac, so he can't use ChessBase. I'm looking for an alternative where they can play through opening repertoires received in PGN format.

To clarify my issue: in every PGN viewer we've tried so far, when we reach a branching point in the opening, we are forced to click on the variations with the mouse. In contrast, ChessBase allows selecting the desired variation simply by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

My question is: does Hiarcs support this functionality, or does it also require using the mouse to navigate between variations?

I tried but did not get it to work. Not with arrow keys or function keys. It also not mentioned in the manual.
It would be best if you contact Hiarcs directly to make sure this is correct.

You might take a look at virtual machine emulators that allow you to run the Windows OS on a MAC. For example, VMware, Parallels, Wine, VirtualBox, and Bootcamp are some of the names that come up in a search. One emulator might work better than another depending on the hardware (and other) resources needed by the HIARCS software.
