I got serious about learning chess in 2019 after, while at a family reunion, my dad absolutely stomped me in a game. Being the board gamer in the family, I decided that I didn’t want to lose that badly to my dad, or anyone else, ever again. So I got a chess opening book, started some puzzles, did “Bobby Fisher teaches chess” sprinkled in some YouTube videos and the rest is history.
